The technological trends of the next decade

From self-driving cars to robotic workers, the future will be here before you know it. Many emerging technologies you hear about today will reach a tipping point by 2025 , according to a recent report from the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on the Future of Software and Society .

This council surveyed more than 800 executives and technology experts on what they believed would be the most relevant innovations of the future. From these results, the 5 major trends that we will see in 2025 were identified :

Clothes connected to the Internet : the majority of the experts surveyed agree on one thing and that is that the fabrics we wear in a few years will be like a second skin. An intelligent skin that will learn from our needs and “plug in” to the web to give us information instantly.
Robotics : This field, closely related to AI, will be the foundation of our digital future. According to experts, in a few years, people will interact with robots as they will be able to program themselves and communicate in our language without the need for human intervention.
3D printing : the creation of materials through a printer is more and more present every day. Sales through this type of technology are expected to increase by 24% to reach €35 billion in 2020, according to the IDC Institute.
Driverless mobility : The future belongs to autonomous driving. It is estimated that, in 2030, vehicles will be able to go anywhere on demand, without a steering wheel, without pedals, without controls of any kind other than an interface with which to enter our commands.
Artificial Intelligence : machines can perceive their environment and carry out actions that maximize the efficiency of their actions thanks to sensors and smart data. Now, teams can learn from their environment, self-program or predict situations thanks to intelligent data analysis. In fact, it is already possible to generate products virtually and see their behavior before production: the so-called «Digital Twin» .
